'A huge spaced warehouse at the edge of the North Side of town and the East Side of town is home to Mystery. The place is huge, pentagonal shaped with a strange ruffled techtured outside that reminds a lot of people of the outside of a box car on a train. It's strong, sturdy and unfortunatly, not in use anymore. Racks from ceiling to floor make long iles and rows of random things. Refridgerators, microwaves, crates, sleds, almost anything you could think of. The roof has steal beams with a triangular pattern almost like grates. There are very few windows, none at all with an exception of a small one by the front door, and a few small skylights, one at each corner of the building. There was a receinving area, a huge slidding door next to the front door with two windows just big enough to fit a face. The electricity works, but most of the lights at the top are dead.
Ever since Mystery had found the place and moved in, he's rearranged the shelves and iles to make a large maze. Easy enough to get threw, but so there's a dead end and passage ways that twist left and right. The items on the shelves have been rearranged to go into sections, one a 'kitchen', a bathroom, bedroom, livin room, etc. And despite it being a warehouse, it is quite comfortable and 'homey'. The plumbing actually works and much cleaner and nicer then one would expect...' ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mystery walked across what he would call the front lawn, the little bit of grass that there was leading to the front door, and shouldered his way to the sliding door. This was his way of getting in, and the place seemed so shabby on the outside that no one cared to go near it. but the inside was clean, livible and home for Mystery. The only place where he coudl be himself. With crates and boxes moved out of the way, he could easily climb to the roof and hang around up there like a maniac. And he did so often. Sliding the door open with a small screech, he made a space just big enough for him to fit and slid inside, the small chain hung around a loop loosely, swinging softly at the open door. Mystery was home.

**Paliki skips up to the warehouse door, left open just a crack by Mystery. Paliki looks in and smiles widely, stating to herself** I can fit through here! It's like a special place just for me!! **The little meerkat squeezes into the room, looks around, and grins again. Deciding she has wasted enough time as is, she starts skipping circles around the room and listening to her footsteps.** It's too quiet. **Paliki pauses for a moment and listens to her voice echo around the room.** That's so cool!! ECHO!! ECHO!! **She keeps skipping around and yelling 'echo' over and over in her squeaky little voice. Eventually she stops, not because she's tired or bored, but because she's decided it's time to investigate.** I'm gonna look around now, 'cause I smell some chocolate!! **Following her nose to the 'kitchen', Paliki comes to a halt as she sees Mystery, sitting in a chair at the table.** Oh, hello! Is this your house? I like it! Do you have chocolate here? My mom says that the Easter Bunny keeps all the chocolate and gives it to the kids on Easter. Are you the Easter Bunny? Can I have some chocolate? Why are you wearing band-aids? They look weird. If you come to my house, I'll give you some of my pretty band-aids. I made them myself! I just took the ones in the kitchen in my room and colored flowers on 'em with my crayons. I like crayons. They look like pencils, but they taste better! And they fit in my mouth better. But Adrien says I shouldn't eat them. He's Moss's boy friend. Do you know him? Do you know Moss? Moss is my siiiister..... **Paliki goes on and on and on......**

Mystery is seated in the kitchen, most of the furniture he does have was from the warehouse itself, torn out of boxes to be more homey. The great dark oak wood table is in the middle of the isle at the very back against the wall in front of the fridge, and other appliances. He had pushed one of the chairs back with a loud scraping noise when an odd voice reached his ears.
'ECHO! ECHO!" He froze, hand on the back of one chair, hand on a can of pop. What ever it was, was getting closer. His eyes focused on a small child skipping his way. He clenched his jaw. The door must be open a crack. As the person got even closer, Mystery was surprised, for once in his life, to find that this person was... a ... rat? He sat roughly in his chair, leaving the pop on the table top and resting his arms on the armrests of his chair. He turned to face this on coming trouble.
He hesitated, seeing this ... rat... thing stop, open it's mouth, and blabbed questions.. and other jibberish. He sat there like a statue, gazing through at... Paliki through the bandages that covoured his face.
He cut her off after the whole shpeal about the sister. "No. I do not know 'Moss' or 'Adrien' for that matter.... yes this is my house. WHY are you in it?"
He stopped, feeling really annoyed at this creature 'breaking and entry' but slightly guilt for being so harsh. He sighed, moving his hand to scratch the top of his head. "Easter Bunny? No. And my bandages are fine. I quite like them how they are. Flowers... arn't really my style." It was hard trying to keep up. "Crayons arn't edible. Who ever this Adrien person is, seems quite smart...-er."
He reached up and rubbed his bandaged face. "Chocolate? Yes. Actually." Standing up and pushing the chair away from him, he walked over to a shelf and pulled out a bar of chocolate. He left civilization for this?! To feed small talking rats chocolate?
Coming back to his seat, he sat roughly, leaning forward and putting his hands on his knees. His head tilts to one side, almost curiously. "But before I give it to you.... Are you a .... talking RAT?"

**Paliki doesn't miss a beat.** I'm not a rat! If I was a rat, my mommy and my sister and my brother would have had me as a snack 'cause they're all cats. I'm a meeeeeeeerkat! That's what I am!! **And then, she launches into what has been aptly named the 'Dreaded Paliki Spiel'** My name is Paliki- that's P-A-L-I-K-I, but you can call me Iki. My favorite number is three because I'm /three/ feet /three/ inches, and I'm four and /three/ fourths years old. That means there's only /three/ months 'till my birthday! And then I'll be FIVE!! I like to play with my toy kitchen, and my favorite food is pop-sIKIles because they have my name in them, and Mom sometimes gets the ones with /three/ colors. But I can't make pop-sIKIles in /my/ kitchen, I have to use the /real/ refrigerator like a big girl! When I was still a little baby, I was at the orphanage, but now that I'm a big girl, I have a /real/ family!! **Pausing for a breath, the 'talking rat' jumps right back in.** Where's your family? Can I have the chocolate now? **Paliki turns her focus to more important things- the chocolate. She desperately jumps up and down, attempting to grab the chocolate bar.** If you give me this chocolate, this will be the first time I get chocolate that's not from the EASTER BUNNY!!

Mystery listens politely, blinking when she took a deep breath. He sat back slowly, resting his arms back to their statue position. He remains quiet for a while. "My family, P-A-L-I-K-I... or Iki... or talking rat, are dead." He suddenly regretted it. such a small creature might not take it too well. He sighed.
"I-... suppose you can have the chocolate." He half smiled beneath his bandages. Opening The chocolate bar, aganisingly slowly. Peeling off the wrapper, he looks from the chocolate, to Talking Rat then with a half smile, slowly handed the bar down to her. "Don't eat it too fast..." Sitting back, he reached up and plucked off his hood, rubbing his bandaged temples a little before putting his arms back to the arm rests.

**Paliki pauses a moment to process this info.** They're DEAD? Did you live at an orphanage too? I don't know if my real parents are dead, but it doesn't really matter 'cause I don't know them anyways! **She's about to keep going when Mystery finishes unwrapping the chocolate. The meerkat jumps up, grabs the chocolate, and lands on Mystery's lap, happily munching away.** Shank-shoo! **Though she may be a little crazy, Paliki isn't rude, and remembers to thanks the kind stranger. Well, she's polite enough to say thank you, although stopping eating long enough to talk without her mouth full seems a bit superfluous to her at this point.**

'Unfortunatly so.' Mystery thought dryly to himself. His parents weren't really the comforting type. They were the people that saw you for what you could be, notice you can't do it after all, and then turn things from you. Try to use you. Try to ignore what's really wrong. It was all his stupid disease's fault. His fist clenched around the arm rests hard enough to make the bones in his knuckles pop and make them feel hot.
He took a deep breath, calmed, relaxed and felt releaved when the talking rat grabbedthe chocolate. Not so happy when she lept into his lap. The sudden movement caught him by surprise and he jumped. Normally, Mystery was prepaired for everything; never caught off guard. This talking rat was waaayyy to unpredictable. He lets her sit though, he doesn't mind.... he supposes. But he does press his back against the chair, trying to put a little bit more distance between him and Paliki. To be kept away from talking anything for a long time makes his first aquantances with people hard to do.
Maybe if he didn't touch her, she might eat her chocolate and hopefully stay still. Chatter was one thing, sitting on laps? That was a little ... odd... and slightly unerving for Mystery. New, different. Too close for comfort maybe? He sighed, relaxing, after all... it was only a talking rat. A REALLy talkative rat, not a big threat... maybe to his ears though...

**Paliki finishes off the chocolate in record time, and starts jumping up and down on Mystery's lap. Smiling widely, she turns to face Mystery.** Thankyouthankyouthankyou!! I LOVE chocolate!! **After this, the meerkat proceeds to dance a little "I love chocolate" dance on Mystery's lap, totally oblivious to his (rather obvious) discomfort.**

Now this was really really weird. Talking Rat was jumping up and down... and it surely was not helping him at all. Mystery took a staggery breath, calmed his raging nerves, and sat back in the chair.
He waved off her thanks, as if it sorta meant nothing, but noticing that she did appreciate his kindness, Mystery on the other hand, was beginning to regret it. A question was burning in his mind, more then one for sure, and he loathed to speak them.
His tongue dry, he sighed and pinched the bridge if his nose in frustration. Not bothering to look at Paliki, he asks. "What are you doing here? Why did you choose to wander into my home?"

**Paliki stops dancing an tries to peer into his eyes.** Because your door was open just for me!! **She grins widely.** There was a little crack, and it was just my size, so I just slipped right in! And now I know that you really were waiting for me, and you opened the door so only I could come in! **At that, the little meerkat starts dancing and saying think you again.**

WHat an idiot, and the shame of it made mystery's ears burn. He had left the warehouse door open?! Gosh what a fool. He slid a hand up from the armchair and smacked his forehead against the falm of his hand. SMACK. SMACK. SMACK. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. 'Mental Note: Always lock the warehouse from the inside when inside... and lock it going out...'
At least it was the act of kindness deep down inside... somewhere, and at a minimum, this talking rat was happy... good thing? Not really... bad thing? Not really either. Momentarily, Mystery was distracted with his puzzled thoughts and misunderstood, and used, feelings.
He looked back at Talking Rat, remouved the hand from his forhead, stopped smacking it, and patted the top of Paliki's head gently. He sighed. "Well, welcome I suppose..."

**Paliki tilts her head in surprise as Mystery smacks his head over and over. She squirms and grins as he pats her head.** I'm so happy I met you. I'll have to take you to my house some day. We don't have any chocolate like you, but sometimes Viv brings in cookies in and they taste GOOD. I think you'd like them a lot. I wish I could make cookies like her.

Mystery blinks, his head cocking to one side slightly as if trying to absorb what Paliki was talking about this time. He sighed after a while. Her house? Hardly. What would be an excuse? He wasn't really a social person; even Mystery thought that he himself was a 'creeper'. A ninja. That's for sure. He took a deep breath.
"We'll see..." He decided that was the best way to end that, but he couldn't help staring at Talking Rat as she mentioned cookies. She wished she could make cookies as good as 'Viv'... did that mean they'd actualy let her TRY to bake something?! He gave his head a small shake to clear it.
"I must be dreaming. There is no way a talking rat is sitting on my lap... talking about baking... I'm still asleep... somebody pinch me..."

**The sound of a motor is heard from the warehouse, followed by the sound of brutally screeching brakes. The sound goes out, and is rep[laced by voices. It's impossible to tell what they're saying, although there is one, a bit higher and sharper then the rest, that detaches itself, and grows nearer.** Hey look.... there's the door. **A moment of quiet is heard, as Moss stares it down, wondering if she can fit through. Without too much deliberation, she decides to give it a try and squeeze through.** Alrighty guys.... come on! **The sound of the chain scraping against the door is heard, then a muffled voice (if you're on the outside) and a quite clear, recognizable one (if you're on the inside).** This is tight... d**n door. Let... me.... through.... **This is followed by a sound of someone tumbling into a shelf, and various things falling to the ground. How Moss can do that sort of thing without having been in a place for even a minute is quite the mystery... this sound is followed however, by her trademark laugh- a sort of maniacal, high-pitched giggling, that, truth be told, really doesn't sound human.** I made it in! Come on guys! **Moss turns back to the door, totally unknowing that the warehouse is currently inhabited, and that her little sister's beat her here.** If I can fit, you can fit! **On the good side... neither of them can see her and her merry gang from where they are...Which might be a bad thing too.**

Toppling boxes, the car, and screeching nonsense rang in Mystery's ears. Someone was breaking in. He looked down at Paliki. "Talking Rat.... stay here in this chair and don't move. You got it? someone's brekaing in, and they might not be too nice. Stay here!" He said rather sharply. Not waiting for a comment or a responce, he picked the little creature up, stood, and set her back down on the chair.
He held up a finger. "Shh! Stay here!" And with a flap of his dark blue cloak behind him, he had rounded a corner and briskly bolted onto a side of one of the many isle metal scaffoldings. Balancing his weight evenly across the fragile metal beams, he swung himself up to perch ontop to look around his warehouse. Eyes narrowing, he quietly walked across to the next. Swinging down a shelf, he leaped down into the isle, and bolted down a few more; just to scrabble up the side again to hide and find this intruder.
~*-=-*~
Socks' tongue flickered in annoyance at his sister. To be honest, he wanted no trouble here. This was someone else's property; breaking an entry. If he was caught, the hope of being a detective for the police later was practicly shattered. Taking a deep breath, he hesitated, decided not to get himself caught no matter what, and approached the door. His heat seeking eyes told him faintly where Moss was, and that the air was pretty chilly in the warehouse.
Exhaling loudly, he fit through the gap with a little more grace and ease, with help from his stretchy flexible hide. "Gee Moss, make any more noise and you could wake the dead..." He had an uneasy feeling about this place, and suddenly wished that waking the dead was truley overexagurated.
